Artist's Comments

Mixed media: light use of tar, sand, wax, polyurethane, collage, acrylic.

So i have this thing where I can't focus on much of anything for too long, unless it's like, a cartoon or something. So for a while, I did work like this, where my focus shifted from the tactile aesthetics i was trying to reach with tar, to different cultures.

This one in particular was when I briefly became obsessed with African art. In parts of Africa, scarification is still used on women, and it is to make a woman more attractive. Women recieve different scars during three periods in their lives, and that's where I got the idea to use my palatte knife to carve those "scars" into the upper right hand corner of the masonite board.
